Mary Stubberfield
Mary Stubberfield is one of Yellow House’s most successful and commercially popular artists, best known for her charming and characterful cat paintings. Her feline subjects—tabbies, gingers, siamese and more—are full of personality and warmth, making them ideal for greeting cards, puzzles and gift ranges, where they have proven enduringly popular.
Alongside her cats, Mary creates vibrant coastal landscapes and highly sought-after Christmas imagery, both of which translate beautifully into seasonal and everyday product collections. Her instinctive use of colour, pattern and detail gives her work a broad and immediate appeal.
Mary studied illustration at Bournemouth Arts University and began her career in London as a freelance illustrator, exhibiting widely before returning to the Sussex coast, where she continues to draw inspiration from her surroundings. Her travels, particularly in Greece and India, have also influenced the richness and warmth of her palette.
Working primarily in acrylics, Mary develops her ideas from sketchbooks and observation, capturing the quirks and individuality of her subjects. A member of the Society of Feline Artists, her work is widely licensed and continues to perform strongly across a variety of products.
