Jane Askey
Jane Askey is an artist whose work captures a strong sense of place, from coastal scenes in the UK and abroad to florals and inviting garden settings. Often working from sketches made on location, she explores light, weather, and atmosphere to create compositions that invite the viewer into the scene.
Jane travels widely, returning frequently to coastal landscapes and islands, particularly in Scotland, Greece and Cornwall. Her sketchbooks underpin her studio practice, where she develops paintings from memory, photographs, and direct experience.
Originally trained in printed textile design at Manchester Polytechnic, her work retains a distinctive use of colour, pattern, and decorative composition. She works across a range of media on canvas, paper, and panel, balancing expressive mark-making with a strong sense of structure.
Alongside her exhibiting practice, Jane’s work has been widely licensed, including a current greeting card range with the Great British Card Company. Her uplifting imagery and clear sense of place translate naturally across a variety of products.
Jane lives and works in rural Shropshire, with views of the Shropshire Hills from her studio.
