Frank Sherwin

Frank Sherwin (1896–1986) was a British watercolourist best known for his evocative railway posters, which encouraged generations of travellers to explore the landscapes and holiday destinations of Britain. He produced work for GWR, LMS, LNER and British Rail, creating distinctive images of the British countryside, coast and waterways.

Sherwin studied at Derby School of Art before continuing his training at Heatherley’s School of Fine Art in London. Although his railway posters are his best-known work, he was also a prolific painter of landscapes and marine subjects, exhibiting widely during his career.

Yellow House represents a collection of Sherwin’s personal work, which has the same timeless, nostalgic appeal as his famous railway images. Simpler and more intimate in style, these paintings capture the character of the British landscape and are particularly well suited to products where a classic, retro feel is required.
